Pension is defined as "a regular payment made by the state to people over a certain age to enable them to subsist without having to work" [1] in the free Dictionary. There are two types of pensions in Sweden, National pension and Occupational Pension.

National pension

If you work and live in Sweden your employer make pension payments for you. The pension payment is a part of our social insurance system. This means you have right to get pension when you reach pensionable age. How much pension you will receive will depend on your earnings during your working life.

It is the Pension agency who administrates the national pension. You can find more information at the following link https://www.pensionsmyndigheten.se/Welcome_en.html

Occupational Pension

As governmentally employed you will also receive a occupational pension, sometimes also called a ‘collective agreement pension’. This is based on an agreement between the trade unions and your employer. Your occupational pension is based on the salary you receive and on the amount of time you have been employed.

You will find more information at the following link about occupational pension at the National Government Employee Pensions Board: https://www.spv.se/Languages/English/
